Shibori

shibori_edited.png

Shibori is an ancient Japanese art of fabric dyeing, where cloth is folded, twisted, or bound to create intricate patterns, revealing delicate, organic designs when dyed and unfolded.

Dating back centuries, artisans carefully manipulate the fabric—tying, stitching, or wrapping it in different ways—before submerging it in natural dyes, like indigo. The dye seeps into the cloth, but only where it’s exposed, leaving untouched areas in beautiful, contrasting designs when unwrapped. This slow, mindful process yields unique, one-of-a-kind pieces, each telling its own story through the delicate lines, shapes, and textures.
