During January 2024, I got the opportunity to work as an apparel print designerfor Label Earthen, under the guidance of Priti Shekhar Singh.
The theme for these prints was inspired by tropical foliage surrounding Andhra Pradesh.
It was a two-month long project, where I had to develop a series of surfaces, both overall and borders, as well as motifs- all in different rendering styles and varying scales.

Moodboard
Initially, I started out with developing moodboards- for both the theme as well as the aesthetic it would reflect, simply exploring different subtopics and styles under the umbrella theme.

Further moving on, I started sketching out various parts of the chosen objects- the banana and the coconut- and it's parts, from the tree to the leaves and fruits of each plant.
These would later on be rendered with varying media (Ink, poster color, pencil colors).
Jaal
We decided to take forward the banana as our design- further exploring jaals of 16" x 16", placing elements taken from sketches of the plant and playing with placement, visual weight and proximity of elements.

Two distinct rendering styles were approved-
ABOVE: Rendered using pencil colors, later scanned and color-sorted in Photoshop
BELOW: Digitally rendered in Photoshop
The right render was taken forward into further development process.
Buta / Motif

TOP LEFT: Digitally rendered in Photoshop
TOP RIGHT: Rendered using pencil colors, later scanned and color-sorted in Photoshop
BOTTOM LEFT: Digitally rendered with omitted line art
BOTTOM RIGHT: Rendered using pencil colors and later scanned in Photoshop
The render on the top left was taken forward for further development process.
Style #2
A European chintz-inspired series was also developed with the pre-existing jaal with modified background and just line art on top of it.
